Labor Day Weekend '06
We made a special trip to Traverse City for Labor Day weekend. The main event of the weekend was Sara VanderHaagen’s wedding. The wedding was on Saturday and we drove up in the morning. We had a really nice time seeing her, and also seeing other friends – it had been awhile since we’d seen many of them (see pictures).
We spent Saturday night in a hotel with Nate and Jill. Sunday morning, we met a group of people for a late breakfast/early lunch, and then went on a horseback riding trip with Brooke and Dave. This was Lisa’s first time ever on a horse! It was a lot of fun – minus a “near-death” experience (or more accurately, a very scary ride up a steep hill). The horses were beautiful, and very cooperative. Our guide took us through the woods at a nice pace, and we were able to gallop through an open field.
We decided to stay up another evening, and celebrate our 4 year Anniversary up there! Wee spent the afternoon and early evening walking on the beach and checking out some shops! For dinner, we were planning on eating at a locally recommended restaurant. However, the wait was quite long. We decided to order take-out from there instead, and then took our food to a picnic table on the beach and enjoyed it there! That night we spent a romantic evening at the Victorian Inn (http://www.traversevictorian.com), in a room with a hot-tub and fireplace!
On Monday we headed to the inner peninsula and went to the Grand Traverse Winery, where we took a tour and enjoyed taste testing! That was something neither of us had ever done, and was quite a fun experience. We got to see the whole winery and learn the process of making wine. Then we were able to try about 6 different wines each. Traverse City is known for their cherries, so many of their wines had a cherry flavor. We bought a few to enjoy at home! Overall it was a nice relaxing and romantic weekend.
