David Turns 30!!
David turned 30 this year (well, technically I guess it was last year, but whatever) and I wanted to do something really fun to surprise him. It is always very hard for me to come up with so many ideas for presents in such a short time period (since his b-day is only 2 days before Christmas). And we tend to operate on the "if we need it we just go out and buy it" motto... so I decided instead of getting some thing for his birthday, I'd give him something special for us to do!
My idea was to get a hotel room for us to spend the night away. Kayla is almost 2.5 years old and I'd yet to spend the night away from her. David has spent plenty of nights away (mostly when Kayla and I travel to visit my parents without him, but also when he has gone hunting). But I'd never had the chance. So, with my suggestion, my parents booked a "get-away package" at the hotel where we had our wedding reception. It included dinner at the hotel restaurant, a night in a suite and breakfast the next morning. It was so nice to just be able to relax, to eat meals by ourselves, to not have to worry about anything about her. It is always such a treat to go out to eat without her (and one that we so rarely get to do). We had a wonderful time.
After sleeping in and relaxing, we headed back to my parents house for a light lunch and cheesecake (Kayla LOVED the candles and singing!). Then we went to downtown Boston and browsed the shops and ate dinner at Faneuil Hall (per David's request, he needed clam chowda in a bread bowl from there!).
It was quite cold outside, so we got some yummy Starbucks drinks and walked to the T and headed to see the Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse. I had seen them while in high school and it was a great show. David had mentioned that he'd love to see them somtime, so it was fun to surprise him with tickets! It was an extremely entertaining show. We laughed out loud so many times! It was just a lot of fun. And again, it was really nice to spend time together, just the two of us, doing some fun things and enjoying each other's company. Thanks mom and dad for watching Kayla for us and letting us have some quality time together.
